Pretty soon she becomes aware of vibrations thrumming up through her shoes from the sidewalk and all around her - throbbing bass lines stream from a huge nightclub that takes up half of a block. The people thronging around outside are glorious - more than one has hair the same color as hers, they all are dressed up in the most elaborate or sexy get ups, and everyone's having a fabulous time.
"Here," she says. "Okay?"
There are two boys kissing in the shadows as they approach the line for the door. It's very sweet.
